Carbon Markings

This particular project began as an exploration of materials: powdered graphite and acrylic gel medium on cardboard. I love the mysterious transformation of the black powder, into viscous liquid, then dry, grey ground, and then to silver as I scratch and rub into the surface. The few square inches of flat space become infinite lands of marks. I like to imagine I’m constructing cosmic worlds and neighborhoods, some busy and noisy, some lonely expanses.
